- Be clear about your objectives: are you trying to encourage test-drives or build up the CRM database?
- Be specific in you goals by including figures. For example, "5,000 test-drives in six weeks"
- Build a list of relevant keywords: think about the words users might type in when searching for the products you offer and ensure you include them
- Keep it simple: the most successful ads connect users with the brand in the most uncomplicated way
- Bear in mind any spelling idiosyncrancies, such as tyre and tire
- Test the keywords you are considering by entering them into a search site
- Make the text containing the keyword as appealing as possible
- Include a call-to-action
- Include a unique offer
- Ensure the landing page is directly relevant. Do not direct customers to a home page - lead them to specific pages dedicated to the model of care they are looking for
- Using clickthrough rates and impression data, keep refining your keywords, so they are more effective - it is an ongoing process
- Make sure you track the campaign using the conversion-tracking tools provided by the search engines, which help to analyse what keywords generate the most returns
- Ensure you think about the many search engines available to users to try to achieve presence in a wide cross-section of sites
